Practical Patient Support

The Amara Centre provides practical support to people affected by cancer, helping to address some of the financial and day-to-day challenges that can arise during treatment and recovery.

We recognise that a cancer diagnosis can bring not only medical challenges, but also a range of practical pressures that affect wellbeing, dignity and quality of life. These may include financial strain, difficulties accessing treatment, additional living costs, or challenges meeting wellbeing and nutritional needs during care.

Our practical support work seeks to respond to these challenges in a thoughtful and compassionate way, helping to ease pressures where possible and supporting people throughout their cancer journey.

Our Focus

Our practical support may include:

  • Contributions towards treatment-related costs where appropriate

  • Support that helps reduce financial barriers to accessing care

  • Nutrition-related support, including assistance with food and hydration needs during treatment and recovery

  • Support for wellbeing-related needs that promote dignity, comfort and quality of life

  • Assistance that helps reduce immediate practical pressures associated with cancer

Support is considered on a case-by-case basis and is guided by individual circumstances, available resources and our charitable objectives.

How We Deliver Support

The Amara Centre works through a combination of direct support, partnerships and community engagement.

In Ghana, we work with trusted local partners to help ensure support is delivered in a way that is locally informed, respectful and responsive to individual circumstances.

In the United Kingdom, our work focuses on addressing practical and wellbeing-related gaps that can affect quality of life during treatment and recovery.

Our Commitment

We are committed to supporting people affected by cancer with compassion, dignity and integrity.

While we are an emerging organisation, our work is guided by a long-term commitment to reducing some of the practical burdens associated with cancer and helping people access the support they need during treatment and recovery.

We believe that no one should face cancer feeling unsupported or alone, and we seek to contribute to that goal through practical assistance, partnership working and lived-experience-informed support.
