Supporting people affected by cancer through practical assistance, advocacy and dignity-centred care.

Our Mission

The Amara Centre exists to support people affected by cancer through practical assistance, advocacy and compassionate engagement.

Our mission is to help ease some of the financial, practical and wellbeing-related burdens that can accompany a cancer diagnosis. Support is delivered in response to lived experience needs across different contexts, with a particular focus on addressing financial and access-related challenges faced by individuals affected by cancer in Ghana, alongside recognition of important gaps in recovery, wellbeing and dignity within the United Kingdom.

Alongside practical support, we are committed to advocacy and awareness across Ghana, the United Kingdom and other contexts where lived experience can inform understanding and improvement of cancer care.

Drawing on lived patient experience, we seek to contribute to greater cancer awareness, informed decision-making, patient education and conversations that promote dignity, compassion and wellbeing throughout the cancer journey.

We believe that support and advocacy are most powerful when combined — strengthening not only awareness, but also the lived experience of cancer care.

Our Vision

We envision a future where no one facing cancer feels alone, unsupported or diminished in dignity because of financial hardship, inequality, or gaps in care.

We aspire to contribute toward a world where people affected by cancer are met with compassion, informed support and more equitable access to both treatment and wellbeing resources, regardless of where they live.

Through practical assistance, awareness and lived-experience advocacy, The Amara Centre seeks to help strengthen support systems, encourage meaningful conversations and promote a more compassionate and dignified cancer journey for individuals, families and communities.

Our Values

Compassion

We act with compassion in all we do, recognising the emotional and practical realities of cancer and responding with care, understanding, and humanity.

Dignity

We believe every person deserves to be treated with respect, privacy and dignity throughout their cancer journey, at every stage of care and recovery.

Integrity

We are honest, transparent and responsible in how we operate, govern and use the resources entrusted to us.

Fairness

We recognise that cancer affects people differently depending on context, and we are committed to responding to unfair barriers that impact access to care, support and wellbeing.

Hope

We believe in the importance of restoring hope — not as sentiment, but as meaningful support, dignity and improved quality of life.
