Financial Support
Helping Ease The Financial Impact Of Cancer
Cancer can bring financial pressure at a time when people are already dealing with diagnosis, treatment and uncertainty.
Reduced income, additional household costs, travel to appointments and everyday living expenses can quickly place strain on individuals and families. Yet financial hardship can sometimes receive less attention than the medical aspects of cancer.
The Amara Centre exists to help address this gap.
Our financial support programme provides timely assistance to people affected by cancer who are experiencing financial hardship following a cancer diagnosis.
The Amara Bridge Grant
The Amara Bridge Grant is our initial financial support programme.
It is designed to provide a short-term financial bridge during the early months following diagnosis, when the financial impact of cancer can be particularly difficult to manage.
The Amara Bridge Grant provides £200 per month from the date of diagnosis for three months, providing up to £600 of additional financial support during this period.
The grant is intended to help with essential costs such as:
-
Food and household essentials
-
Travel and transport
-
Energy and household bills
-
Other everyday living costs affected by the financial impact of cancer
The grant is not intended to replace statutory benefits, charitable grants or other sources of assistance. Instead, it provides additional financial support during a period when a person or household may be experiencing increased financial pressure.
Who Is The Grant For?
The Amara Bridge Grant is intended for people in the United Kingdom who have received a cancer diagnosis and are experiencing financial hardship as a result.
Applications will be assessed against the programme’s eligibility criteria and available funding.
We aim to keep the application process straightforward and respectful, recognising that people applying for financial support may already be dealing with significant demands.
Why Financial Support Matters
The financial impact of cancer can extend well beyond the treatment itself.
People may experience reduced earnings, additional travel expenses, changes to household responsibilities and increased everyday costs. For some, these pressures can affect their ability to manage basic living expenses at a time when their attention is already focused on their health.
Financial support cannot remove the difficulties associated with cancer, but timely assistance can help ease some of the immediate pressure.
Through the Amara Bridge Grant, we want to make a practical contribution at a point when financial support can be particularly valuable.
Our Approach
We believe financial support should be delivered with compassion, dignity and integrity.
We aim to treat every applicant as an individual, handle information responsibly and make decisions fairly and transparently.
The Amara Centre will review the Bridge Grant programme as it develops, using experience, feedback and evidence to understand its impact and identify opportunities to improve or expand financial support in the future.
Looking Ahead
The Amara Bridge Grant is the beginning of The Amara Centre’s financial support work.
As the charity develops, we hope to explore additional ways of addressing the financial hardship associated with cancer and responding to gaps in existing support.
Our focus will remain on financial support that responds to genuine financial need and can make a meaningful difference to the experience of people affected by cancer.
