About The Amara Centre

The Amara Centre is a new cancer charity working to reduce the financial hardship caused by cancer through practical support, advocacy and awareness.

Our work focuses on addressing the financial, practical and wellbeing-related challenges that can accompany a cancer diagnosis. Through practical assistance, advocacy, cancer awareness, patient education and lived-experience engagement, we aim to help people affected by cancer access essential support, maintain dignity and feel supported throughout diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

As we establish the organisation, we are building a strong fundraising function to support the charity’s development and enable us to deliver meaningful and sustainable impact.

The Role

As Fundraising Lead, you will play a key role in developing and implementing The Amara Centre’s fundraising strategy and helping to build the income needed to establish and grow our work.

This is an opportunity to take a leading role in developing fundraising for a new charity, helping to identify opportunities, build relationships and establish systems and approaches that can support the organisation as it grows.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of The Amara Centre’s fundraising strategy.

  • Researching and identifying suitable trusts, foundations, corporate partners, major donors and other funding opportunities.

  • Developing and maintaining a fundraising pipeline and prospect database.

  • Supporting the preparation of compelling funding applications, proposals and other fundraising materials.

  • Identifying opportunities for corporate partnerships and community fundraising.

  • Helping develop relationships with prospective funders, donors and partners.

  • Monitoring fundraising opportunities, deadlines and outcomes.

  • Contributing to fundraising campaigns, events and initiatives.

  • Working with the Chief Executive and wider team to develop compelling cases for support.

  • Helping establish effective fundraising processes, systems and records.

  • Monitoring fundraising activity and providing regular updates on progress.

  • Contributing ideas and strategic thinking to help grow and diversify the charity’s income.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about fundraising and can bring initiative, creativity and a strong understanding of how to develop income for a growing charity.

You will ideally have experience in one or more areas of fundraising, such as:

  • Trusts and foundations

  • Corporate fundraising or partnerships

  • Major donor fundraising

  • Community fundraising

  • Grant applications

  • Fundraising campaigns

  • Events

  • Prospect research and development

We would also welcome applications from individuals with strong transferable skills who are looking to develop their fundraising experience.

We are particularly looking for someone who:

  • Believes in The Amara Centre’s mission and the importance of reducing the financial hardship caused by cancer.

  • Is proactive, organised and comfortable working independently.

  • Can identify opportunities and turn ideas into practical fundraising activity.

  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Can build positive relationships with potential funders, donors and partners.

  • Is confident researching funding opportunities and preparing persuasive proposals.

  • Can work collaboratively with the Chief Executive and wider team.

  • Is commercially aware and able to think creatively about income generation.

  • Is committed to achieving meaningful results.

Previous experience of fundraising within a charity is desirable but not essential. We are particularly interested in people who can demonstrate relevant experience, strong transferable skills and a genuine enthusiasm for helping to build something from the ground up.

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to play a significant role in building the fundraising function of a new charity from its earliest stages.

You will have the opportunity to help shape our fundraising strategy, develop relationships with funders and partners, build your experience and contribute directly to the resources that will enable The Amara Centre to support people affected by cancer.

Your contribution could help turn our ambitions into practical support for people experiencing financial hardship because of cancer.

As the organisation grows, this role may develop alongside our fundraising function. Future paid positions, if created and funded, will be advertised separately and volunteers will be welcome to apply. There is no guarantee or expectation of future paid employment.

How to Apply

If you would like to be considered for this voluntary role, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Please complete the application form below and tell us about yourself, your experience and why you would like to support The Amara Centre as Fundraising Lead.

We welcome applications from people who are passionate about our mission and who would like to contribute their skills, experience and ideas to building a charity with purpose, ambition and meaningful impact.
