Our Mission, Vision, & Values

Supporting people affected by cancer through financial support, advocacy and a commitment to dignity.

Our Mission

The Amara Centre is a cancer charity working to reduce the financial hardship caused by cancer through financial support, advocacy and awareness.

Drawing on lived experience, we provide timely financial support to people affected by cancer who are experiencing financial hardship, helping to ease some of the immediate pressures that can arise following a cancer diagnosis.

Our work recognises that cancer can place significant financial and practical strain on individuals and families. These pressures may include reduced income, additional household costs, travel expenses, food and other essential living costs at a time when people are already dealing with the impact of diagnosis and treatment.

Alongside financial support, we are committed to raising awareness of the financial impact of cancer and advocating for better support for people facing financial hardship as a result of their diagnosis.

We believe that practical financial support and advocacy can make a meaningful difference, helping people maintain dignity during a particularly difficult period while also drawing attention to the wider gaps in support.

We are guided by the AHEAD Framework and the CHIME Principles in everything we do, ensuring that our work is compassionate, responsible and grounded in integrity.

Our Vision

We envision a future where cancer does not leave people facing financial hardship without timely and meaningful support.

Through financial assistance, advocacy and awareness, The Amara Centre seeks to help reduce the financial burden of cancer and contribute to greater recognition of the practical realities faced by people affected by the disease.

We aspire to a future where people affected by cancer can focus on their treatment and recovery without having to face financial hardship alone, and where the financial impact of cancer is better understood, recognised and addressed.

Our Values – How we CHIME.

At the heart of The Amara Centre is a commitment to values that guide how we work, how we support people and how we engage with communities and partners.

These values shape our approach to reducing the financial hardship caused by cancer and advocating for people affected by cancer.

C – Compassion

We act with compassion in all we do, recognising the emotional and practical realities of cancer and responding with care, understanding and humanity.

H – Hope

We believe in the importance of hope — not as sentiment, but as something strengthened through meaningful support, dignity and the knowledge that people do not have to face financial hardship alone.

I – Integrity

We are honest, transparent and responsible in how we operate, govern and use the resources entrusted to us.

We are committed to acting ethically, building trust and ensuring that our work remains accountable to the people and communities we serve.

M – Meaning

We seek to ensure that our work creates meaningful impact in the lives of people affected by cancer.

This means listening to lived experience, responding to real needs and focusing our resources on support and advocacy that can make a genuine difference.

E – Empowerment

We seek to empower people affected by cancer by providing timely financial support, raising awareness and helping people understand and access sources of support.

We believe that people facing cancer should feel supported, respected and able to seek help without losing their dignity.

Together, CHIME represents the values that guide The Amara Centre in its commitment to reducing the financial hardship caused by cancer through financial support, advocacy and awareness.
